75 Years of Princess Auto PDF Print E-mail

In 2008 Princess Auto celebrated 75 Years of serving Canadians, here is some of the story behind our company:

It all started with a truck and a commitment to the future.

In 1942 a young Winnipeg truck driver named Mr. Harvey Tallman sold his truck and with the proceeds was able to purchase Princess Auto Wrecking on Princess Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. 75 Years Logo

In time he expanded the wrecking business to include a mail order catalogue, sending machinery and tools across the nation.

The Princess Auto catalogue became a Canadian tradition and the foundation was set for Princess Auto Ltd.

Harvey continued to grow the Winnipeg based company, moving the business first to Fort Street then to Panet Road, where the current home offices and a store are still located.

In 1976, Harvey retired leaving his sons Larry and Bob to continue the leadership of Princess Auto.

The brothers brought a new era of growth and development, and in 1977 Princess Auto opened the first store in Edmonton, Alberta.

A new manufacturing division built in 1980 answered the need for Princess Auto manufactured products.

In 1989, Bob Tallman became president of the company while his brother Larry retired to pursue other adventures.

Under Bob Tallmans leadership Princess Auto developed a 'unique world' philosophy including the legacy of great values and Royal Service to all guests of Princess Auto.

The commitment to outstanding value and Royal Service continues to be the focus of Princess Auto today.
