Sue provides Royal Service that extends beyond the store walls.
Sue has been a Whitby Team Member since March 2004, and is known for her animal rescuing. Fourteen years ago while working in a pet store, she came across an injured Lutino Cockatiel (named Gizmo). Sue took the bird home and nursed it back to full health, which started a lifelong love of birds with Gizmo at her side.
With experience working at a vet clinic, and years
in a store that specialized in birds and exotic animals, Sue focused on animal husbandry and
nutrition courses to improve her skills. This led to more bird rescues: Ringo, the potty
beaked
Blue Headed Pionus (who came into her care knowing a few choice words); Molson, the
charming and comical
Pearl Pied Cockatiel with no toes; and a blind and diabetic Albino
Cockatiel, just to name a few. Despite being in rough condition upon their arrival, some of
these rehabilitated birds (including Gizmo) later went on to win ribbons in local shows
Over time, Sue has placed around 50 birds into new homes, and has provided care for a number of rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, and even a timber wolf. She's currently working with a wildlife rehab centre to become involved as a foster parent to other animals in need.
