Extended Validation Security - Princess Auto uses the highest level of Security Certificate available.  Depending on your web browser this certificate uses up to 256 bit encryption to transmit data between your computer and our web server and our internal servers.  The Extended Validation feature is an additional security measure that turns your address bar green when secure transactions are requested - the green light for trusting a secure site gives confidence to shop online.

McAfee SECURE - Princess Auto uses an additional layer of security and trust for keeping shoppers safe.  McAfee Secure web sites are certified as providing the highest level of protection for their shoppers.

Some terms to know about Security, web pages and the Internet:

Server - An internet facing computer that is designed to host website pages, allow users to access the files and images that are stored in folders, and connect to many at the same time.

Internet Facing - A server or computer that is accessible through the internet to anyone who knows the address where to find it.  The address could be a number (called IP) or a name (called a domain or a URL)

SSL - Secure Sockets Layer.  Also known as TLS - Transport Layer Security.  This is a term related to internet security and is used when your address goes from http:// to https:// - the S is for Secure.  Using TLS or SSL is an important way to secure information between a server and a user.

Encryption - A type of cryptography, it is basically the practice of hiding information.  To Encrypt is the process of making information unreadable to anyone except those with special knowledge of the decryption key. 

Cipher - a series of steps involved in performing encryption and decryption.  Cipher strength is determined by the length and complexity of the key used to decrypt information.  As the key size increases the complexity of encryption also increases to a point where it becomes unfeasible to crack without the key.

40/ 128/ 256 Bit Encryption - An important factor related to security, the length of the key in bits.  Older browsers (used before 2001) may still be limited to 40 bit keys; this length is considered to offer little protection against attack.  128 bits is the current standard and is thought to provide sufficient security for the foreseeable future.  For highly sensitive data 256 bit keys are used.  Depending on the browser and version you use at home you may be protected up to 256 bits while shopping on PrincessAuto.com.

EV - Extended Validation - An extra layer of authentication used to add trust to online transactions.  The EV certificate is intended to increase confidence among users that the website is a legally established business or an organization with a verifiable identity.  The business must provide and pass multiple requests to the issuing authority in order to qualify for the Extended Validation certificate.  The difference for a user is visual and turns the address bar of the users' browser green while showing the trust mark and provider as extra information.  Browsers that support this feature are Internet Explorer version 7 and higher, Mozilla Firefox version 3 and higher, Safari version 3.2 and higher, Opera version 9.5 and higher, and Google Chrome.

Hackers - a person or people who break into computers.  Using any exploitation available hackers will compromise the security or trust of a business by stealing, impersonating, spamming, scamming, committing fraud or identity theft.  To combat hackers there are many tools available including site scans, trust marks, security certificates of various levels, practicing safe computing and internet security.
